Need Non-Fiction? Books to Try!

Hi everyone - Sarah, here!

Not everyone who comes to the beach wants to loose themselves in the latest Janet Evanovich or Tom Clancy paperback. Many (like me!) are more inclined to delve into a biography, true-life adventure, or weird science story.

Here are just a few to consider (in no particular order)!

  1. A Short History of Nearly Everything (Bill Bryson)
  2. Salt: A World History (Mark Kurlansky)
  3. And a Bottle of Rum: A History of the New World in Ten Cocktails (Wayne Curtis)
  4. Team of Rivals (Doris Kearns Goodwin)
  5. Marie Antoinette (Antonia Fraser)
  6. Mayflower (Nathaniel Philbrick)
  7. The Hungry Ocean: A Swordboat Captain's Journey (Linda Greenlaw)
  8. Hatteras Blues: A Story from the Edge of America (Tom Carlson)
  9. The Audacity of Hope (Barak Obama)
  10. One Soldier's Story: A Memoir (Bob Dole)
  11. Flags of Our Fathers (James Bradley/Ron Powers)
  12. Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer: A Trip Into the Heart of Fan Mania (Warren St. John)
  13. Pirate Hunter: The True Story of Captain Kidd (Richard Zacks)
  14. Running with Scissors (Augusten Burroughs)
  15. Marley & Me (John Grogan)
  16. Into Thin Air (Jon Krakauer)
  17. Gates of Fire: An Epic Novel of the Battel of Thermopylae (Steven Pressfield)
  18. How the Irish Saved Civilization (Thomas Cahill)
  19. Helter Skelter (Vincent Bugliosi)
  20. The Secret (Rhonda Byrne)

Unfogging the Future: Make Your Harry Potter Predictions at www.The-Leaky-Cauldron.org!

We're less than 100 days away from the release of Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows -- can you believe it?

Sarah's favorite fan site www.The-Leaky-Cauldron.org has created a place that you can make your predictions about Book #7.

It's an interactive quiz that will be updated with new questions every 20 days. Then, once the book's released, the person with the most correct answers will win.

You can click on the picture to see Sarah's predictions...and to make YOUR OWN predictions! Clearly, Sarah's expecting the worst for poor Harry...I think he's gonna make it though! :)

See you on July 21!

Our First Hogwarts Activity Hour!

EXPELLIARMUS!

We had our first
Hogwarts Activity Hour today--we made our own magic wands--and it was SO MUCH FUN! Everyone ended up covered in glue, glitter, and paint but smiling and happily jinxing everything in our paths :)

Enjoy the photos and drop by to make a wand yourself! (Fridays, 4 pm)

An Overflowing Cup of Crafts

How many glitter pens can YOU fit into a sandcastle mold?

At least a million according to these two! :)

The store is packed to the rafters this year...or will be as soon as the final five arcade games show up...but one of Sarah's favorite things are the Craft Bins.

Here's how it works: We have rows upon rows of beads, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, foam cut-outs, flowers, gimp, paint, glue, glitter, seashells, and more. Plus there are fun toys like gooey hands, glow-in-the-dark bugs, frisbees, sunglasses, and funky jewelery. But there's a special deal where if you stuff a Tiki Cup or Sandcastle Mold with as much as it can possibly hold, you get the whole she-bang for just $9.99. It's a really funny deal and that seems to be a big hit!

...But I do think that the two ladies in the photo above win the "how much can you fit?" category :)

See ya soon!

A Fur-tastic Spring Break!

What a wonderful week we've had!

So many people came by to talk to us and look around the store--thank you so much!

Tee-hee...I made a new Newfie friend this week, too! Can you guess which one I am? (shhh...I'm the little one)

Let's see...Sarah asked me to let you know what this week's highlights were so here I go...

BOOKS: Stories about the ocean seemed to be really popular especially "The Hungry Ocean" by Linda Greenlaw and "Bats at the Beach" by Brian Lies. People were also really interested in historical fiction like "Constant Princess" by Phillipa Gregory and "Marie Antionette".

CDs: We're having a 50% off sale on all music in the store, so LOTS of CDs found new homes this week :)

CRAFTS: We had so much fun during craft hour on Wednesday making bracelets. Hopefully we'll see a few more for our Hogwarts Activity Hour on Friday, too!

I guess that's it, I'm on my way to find out more about this Easter Bunny business...I'm not sure what it's all about...do you think it's scary? Ken says that I'd probably like Peeps...(what are Peeps?)

PS:
Check out these pictures of me and my new friends Seamus (the big Newfie on the left) and Gus (the Chessie)...don't we look like brothers!? I also met Beau -another great big Newfie from Virginia this week, but Sarah forgot her camera when he came to visit...I want to be big like them when I grow up!!
